Assalaamu alaykum Br. Hesham: Without fail, I cry when reading posts about the death of your daughter and how your family has suffered. May Allah ease your pain and grant you and your family Paradise for your patience in the face of this most trying of losses. I recently found out about a seminar about losing a child by Muhammad AlShareef of the AlMaghrib Institute. While I am not in any way affiliated with this organization, I do think the event may offer a valuable and much needed discussion about the Islamic perspective on child death. As someone who lost a child due to miscarriage almost a decade ago, I was at a loss when it came to trying to deal with this test the right way. Alhamdu lillah, reading whatever information I could find on the Islamic perspective gave me comfort, but I also would have appreciated getting a scholarly perspective. This event may possibly offer that. While it is being held in Canada, it is also being broadcast live and can be heard anywhere around the world, as far as i can tell. In any case, here is the info if you are interested:http://www.almaghrib.org/ilminar/May Allah bless you with increased Iman and happiness always.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts in such a difficult time. When a child passes on, or is even very sick, all other worries, concerns, priorities seem to melt away. Geo-politics, intellectual debates, business opportunities, nothing else seems to matter other than connecting with Allah to seek His gentle healing for our broken spirits and their health, for certainly there is no comfort except His. Any false bravado vanish, we submit as the weak, helpless servants with the realization that what our hearts need can only be filled by him. This is an experience that is painful (especially as a father we feel our role is to protect), and I do not wish it on anyone, at the same time there are few things that can more effectively wipe away the cobwebs from our spirit and help to realize the realities of this world and our station in it...May Allah bless everyone with the tranquility we all need--whether we realize it yet or not--and that only comes from connecting with the Eternal and Infinite...May He bless your beautiful family Hesham and grant you the best in this life and the next.
